Lenovo's S5000 carries a lighter load than any 7-inch tablet before it

Lenovo goes lighter than any slate before it with its latest 7-incher, the S5000. At 0.54 pound, the Android 4.2 tablet is lighter than even the iPad Mini and Nexus 7 (2013). Its other specs, however, don't exactly achieve high watermark status -- but it is fairly cheap. Lenovo says it'll cost €199 (roughly $260 or £170).
The S5000 features a 1,280x800-pixel resolution IPS screen with 360 candelas per square meter brightness. That's not as sharp as current high-end 7-inch screens from Google andKobo, but unless you're completely accustomed to 300-plus ppi (pixel-per-inch) screens, you likely won't notice much difference.
A 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek 8389 CPU acts as the brains for the 3G model, and a MediaTek 8125 processor runs the Wi-Fi-only version. Other components include 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth 4.0, Micro-USB, an accelerometer, GPS, a 5-megapixel back camera, and a 1.6-megapixel front shooter. Lenovo claims up to 8 hours of life with the included 3,200MAh battery.
Look for a 16GB storage configuration when the tablet hits shelves this December in all markets that carry Lenovo products. It's not spectacularly cheap, so Lenovo will hope this half-pound hero will impress on weight alone.
